Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:

No matter how much man thinks of himself, we are nothing without God. God is greater than His creation including mankind.

Genesis 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

Genesis 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Practical - Works that apply Biblical Principle:

This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.

Humbleness is very difficult. As soon as we think we have reached it, we lose it. A daily process of dying to self is necessary. No matter what the event or people we are dealing with we must consider others first. I must remember just because I am right does not give me the right to make myself more than God makes me. God gives grace to the humble. I need God’s grace more than I need to make sure others know that I am right.

Why do you do what you do? In your personal relationship with Christ or in your public worship in the church, you need to know why you do what you do. If you were to define your Christian life, how would you do it? Would you define it by what you do or by stating what you believe? In the Bible, James shows that you must do both.

James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

To define the faith side I would like to show that our faith is in the absolute truths of God’s Word. For the discussion, we will use the term “principle” for what we believe by faith - the absolute truths of God’s Word. We will use the term “practical” to define what we do - our works. This year, I am planning a daily blog to address the absolute truths in God’s Word and ways we can work to apply those truths. Our day needs to be filled with Biblical principles and practical actions that do not violate these principles. What I have found over a number of years of ministry is that people do not know why they do what they do, neither do they know why they believe what they believe. I hope this exercise will help provoke thought.

Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:

Life is important to God. God wants mankind to understand how important life is to God buy putting consequences on those who take a life. God’s plan is for people to bring in more life with children and penalty to those who take it away.

Genesis 9:6-7 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. 7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

Practical - Works that apply Biblical Principle:

Do you take a stand on what is known today as the pro-life issue? Bringing life into the world is important to God and taking that life brings judgment. The practical to the principle here requires me to take the same stance on life that God does. There are no exceptions to the importance of life.

Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:

God keeps His promises in spite of what man does and how life seems to play out each day as unspiritual. God keeps His promises including being longsuffering so people will come to repentance.

Genesis 8:21-22 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

2 Peter 3:3-9 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

There are people I will continue to witness to in spite of their continued rejection. God gave compassion to Noah and all generations since then. God is not slack. So, I will continue to witness.
