Day 131

Day 131
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
It only takes one generation to turn away from God.  The children of those who served God mightily in one generation turned to serve Baalim. (many images of gods)  God even warned them this would take place.  The question to ask is why did the next generation not know the LORD.    There were altars and monuments all over the land to remind them of God and all that He had done but to no affect.  The answer is simple.  Knowing the Lord does not come from your relationship with your parents but with your relationship with the Lord.  Every generation needs to make it personal.

Judges 2:1-11 And an angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you.
And ye shall make no league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this?
Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.
And it came to pass, when the angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the LORD.
And when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.
And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.
And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash.
And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:

There are many that claim the Lord but do not follow the Lord and are blinded to the fact that they do not know the Lord.  Their true father the devil has deceived them with a lie.  There can be entire generations grow up in church believing a lie and thinking they are ok.  Only the true Word of God can show the light that reveals the darkness in which they are living.  Unfortunately, when shown the darkness, these men turned on Jesus to stone Him.

John 8:39-47 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Day 130

Day 130
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
No matter the past leaders that are gone, we must always remember, the Lord gives the victory through our obedience.  The people worked together for the victories, but one by one they started to not complete the victory by not destroying all the enemy.  One tribe decided that the taxes they could get from the enemy was greater than being obedient to God to destroy them.   The truth here is the children of Israel forgot who was in charge,  the Lord.

Judges 1:1-4 Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
Judges 1:21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
Jud 1:27-28 Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

Practical - Works that apply Biblical Principle:
This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.

To continue to experience victory and rest we must cease from our work and follow the Lord’s leading.  We need to remember it is the Word of God that is powerful to bring victory.  We need to come boldly to God in prayer of the victory.  Once we begin to fight the fight ourselves we will let a little world in and forget to destroy utterly.

Hebrews 4:9-16 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Day 129

Day 129
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
No matter how great the victory we have just experienced, we must never forget who brought the victory.  We are blessed with overwhelming blessings.  We however need to guard against falling back to idolatry.  Idolatry is not about worshiping statues.  Idolatry is bringing the true God of Heaven down to our level of understanding.  Idolatry is attributing the work of God to natural occurrences.   We need to be careful to remember that God is greater than all His creation.  God is not ever to be brought to our level of thinking.   Do not forget what great victory God has done for you.

Joshua 24:13-27 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.

God causes us to triumph.  We need to thank God.  Live your life so that others see Christ in us so that we can show others God’s love to all in salvation.

2Corinthians 2:14-17 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ

Day 128

Day 128
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
When God gives the victory it is always complete and with the result of true rest.
God always finishes His work

Joshua 21:43-45 And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.
And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand.
There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

Practical - Works that apply Biblical Principle:
This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.

The ultimate victory is that over sin with the result of complete rest in the eternal life in Christ. God has finished the victory over sine and the result if we keep his commandment of trusting Christ by faith for His salvation; we will have eternal life.  We can trust the Lord for this ultimate victory.

1John 5:3-5 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
1John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

Why Start a Church in the Bible Belt - Part 2

When in the small town with churches on every corner, some may ask: Why so many churches? What is the difference between them? Why don’t they get along? Why would someone consider starting another church, especially in the “Bible Belt?” What kind of churches are in this town? So many questions are asked repeatedly. To add to the previous list of churches, let us look at a few more examples of churches in this town.

In church number 6, we see a group of people that work hard in the ministry. The membership is known for their labor in the hard things. They are also known for their patience with those who need help and encouragement. This group stands against evil and goes to the necessary means to find those who would try to deceive them from the truth.  This church hates what God hates. When faced with ongoing difficulties they press on and never quit. This sounds like a church that everyone would want to join. The pastor of this church would be the one at conferences teaching on how to accomplish great things in the church. This church has jobs for everyone, and everyone knows exactly their responsibilities. Some may think that this church must be impacting its community. However, there was a hidden problem with this church that revealed that it was not impacting the community the Bible way.

In church number 7, we see a group that, like the other churches, their desire to work is very visible. This church is not ashamed of the name of Christ. Without compromise, this church holds strong to the true Biblical faith. This church is located in a very rough   neighborhood where even law enforcement is cautious. This church may not be every ones church, but those who are in it see it as a way to impact the wrong side of the tracks. However, this church as well is not affecting the neighborhood as they thought. The confused members cannot understand that in spite of their long hard work they are seeing no results. They have made in roads to those in the communities making connections with the people. But, to no avail. Nothing seems to change the neighborhood.

In church number 8, we see a church that is known everywhere for their acts of charity and service to the community. This church walks by faith and deals with others with great patience. The daily work schedule is greatly noted by all to the point when you think they have done all they can they show they can work harder. The people of this church are also facing such opposition that the burden is almost unbearable. With all the charity shown, walks of faith, and unending work, one would think this church must truly be effective in the community. However, because of things that are found inside the walls of this church, it is not making any difference. It is almost hard to believe.

Church number 9 is well known for its name that is alive and visible. This church is conscious of its surroundings. Though they feel they are a small remnant, they work hard at staying strong. The work they do may not be complete; they simply continue. This group of people does what they can to remain pure, to not be defiled by the world or those other groups that call themselves religious but are not true. Though fighting against all odds, one would think they would be affecting someone. But they are not seeing lives impacted. They are strong in their beliefs, but there is no change in the large groups in the town.

Church number 10 is a group of people who stand with all confidence, nothing wavering. They stand sure of all the blessings of large facilities with all the amenities. The offering plates are full. All the works are being done without any hesitation because there is nothing they are lacking to have every program available to the community. This church sees crowds of people; their pews are full. This church is a mega church. The people are happy to be members and strive to add to the membership to do even more than they are doing now. This must be the top church; it has everything. But, the truth is, this church has not impacted anything for Christ. The community is the same as it always was; there is no difference. The community feels comfortable with the church being a part of it.

Why do these churches appear not to be impacting their communities? In churches 1 through 5, we saw churches that failed to have the Lord as the center. They failed to bring a visible view of who God is. They had many good-looking religious acts that fell short of the truth of God’s Word.

In church number 6, the problem was that while they were working hard at working for Christ they forgot to tell others about Him. Their love for Christ because of the salvation Christ brought to them was not being shared with others. They lost their first love. This church was and is Ephesus. This church may be in your community and you may never know it because they are not out sharing God’s love for you. They forgot to go into all the world and preach the gospel.

In church number 7, the problem was that as they tried to reach the world they let too much of it in. They allowed for each person’s diversity to fill out the church. They did not realize they have brought God down to the level of the people to appeal to more people. They organized to allow the people, the laity, to make the rules. The majority governs which makes more people happy because they have a say in what is going on. The problem becomes evident with the fact the way this church is conducting business. God says He hates this. This church was and is Pergomas.

In church number 8, the problem was that when you looked past the good things on the outside, you find the leadership is actually God haters. They are rebellious against anything Biblical. They teach that you can do all good things in life without actually serving the God of the Bible. This is hard to believe, but it is in your neighborhood. This church was and is Thyatira. This church is popular in the community because of what they give back to the community, but there is no impact for Christ because they are Christ deniers by deceiving ways. They let people think they are serving Christ while leading them away.

In church number 9, although this church is working as hard as it can with the few that they have, they are missing the true focus. They get wrapped up in what they are doing and forget to be watchful for Christ making His presence known. While working for Christ they forget to look for Him. This church tends to forget the truths they have been taught and who taught them. They see it hard to turn back when they are shown where they are falling short of doing right. This church was and is Sardis. They are not impacting their community because they see themselves as too small a group to make a difference. They just want to hold on until the end.

Then, there is church 10, the crowd is there, the programs are there, the money is there. The problem with this church is that they have nothing of any spiritual truth. All of the actions are surface only with no depth. This church brings the most difficulties in spotting the trouble. From all outward appearances and the words that are spoken, all is well. The difficulties stem from the small amounts of lies that have melded with the truth that is being taught from the pulpit. The things being taught seem to be right, they make common sense. The other problem with this church is that they are completely blind to the reality that they are not making any true impact on their world. When confronted with the truth they attack and condemn because they refuse to see that they have been deceived. This church was and is Laodicea. They will never impact their communities in spite of the large crowds in their building because everyone can read into what is being said as their own truth. No judging allowed, just love and embracing each other for the cause of Christ.

In a church that makes an impact, we see a group that in the midst of facing tribulation, they continue forward in their work with no hesitation. This church, in the midst of having very little worldly means to accomplish the work they set out to do, ceased not from moving forward. They will clearly see those who claim to be followers of God are truly followers of Satan and his deception. Facing suffering for the cause of Christ, they do not show fear. This church is willing to face death just to stand. When this happens, the community is greatly affected. In all of history, when God’s people are persecuted and martyred, the world gets turned upside down. One sure way to impact your community is to face death and persecution. Are you as a church prepared? This church was and is Smyrna, those willing to sacrifice their life for Christ

Another way to impact your community as a church is to see the open door God has given to the great commission. The church with the single focus of taking the salvation message to the world with all love and compassion makes a difference. People are dying every day and going into eternity in hell away from God forever. We can do all the normal religious things. We can have theological discussions with numerous groups with no clear answers. We can build buildings, feed, clothe, and house people, but if we fail to give them the answer to all life we have failed. If we only look at our neighborhood as the focus of our impact we will never truly make an impact. We are commissioned to take the gospel into all the world. Then, and only then, do we make an impact. This church was and is the Philadelphia church; true brotherly love.

Revelation 2:1-3:22 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks; 2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. 6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate. 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. 8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; 9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. 10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. 11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. 12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges; 13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth. 14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. 15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. 16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. 18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; 19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. 20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. 26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. 4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. 5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. 7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. 9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. 12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. 13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Day 127

Day 127
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
God gives the victory to each individual that seeks to serve the Lord.  Sometimes the Lord gets others to help in getting the victory, even if the victory is for someone else.

Joshua 18:1-4 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them.
And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.
And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?
Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.

Practical - Works that apply Biblical Principle:
This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.
We are instructed to fulfill the true law of God by helping others with their victories even when it does not directly affect us or for our personal victory.  Our work will not be wearying if we focus on others in our Christian walk.

Galatians 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Day 126

Day 126
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word
God keeps his word all the times.  God gives you the strength you need to do what God had promised.  That which we feared the most God gives victory over the giants.  As seen in Joshua 11 that the Lord had already cleared out the giants leaving only a few in a small area.   The giants the people were afraid of 40 years earlier the Lord defeated them with no Israelites in site.

Joshua 14:7-15 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.
And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.
And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

Joshua 11:22 There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

Practical - Works that apply Biblical Principle:
This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.

What seems overwhelming in life to us is simply God showing us a victory through Him.  We need to be stedfast in our faith, Unmovable in the truth, and abounding in the work the Lord has given us.  The life of faith lived for the Lord is worth every moment in the end.

1Corinthians 15:57-58 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Why Start a church in the "Bible Belt" Part 1

Why start a church in the “Bible Belt”?

For many years of my life, I have heard the phrase “Bible Belt.” For those of you who do not know this reference let me take a moment to define. Historically the southeastern portion of the United States has been referred to as the Bible belt. There are a number of reasons historically this would be an accurate statement. However, for this brief explanation I will not deal with all the details. For nearly 100 years in the South, you can find multiple churches not only in the same town but also on every other street corner. If you stop most people on the street and ask them where they attend church, they will point down the road to a building with a steeple and name the church. If you ask them where their neighbor goes to church, they may say the same church or point to another church down the road to a building with a different style of steeple. For the most part, the people, although attending different church buildings, got along in their daily routine of life and business. Those who did not attend any of the numerous churches in that town or in that community were the outcasts. Everywhere you turn people were good church-going people. Their “people,” family members going out to multiple numbered 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cousins, were all good church-going people. The denomination you were a part of did not affect your daily work or relationships with one another.

As the years went along, from time to time the people in one church building would have a disagreement over just about anything. This disagreement resulted in another church building with a different style steeple being built just down the street. The services conducted in the new church building looked, sounded, and duplicated exactly the services in the church building they had just left. Soon the “Bible Belt” was defined as towns with churches on every street corner. Why are there so many churches in the same town? What is the difference between them? Is there a need for one more? Let’s look inside these churches for a moment and see what is going on, so we can best answer these questions.

In church number 1, we see a group of people who preach and teach the importance of not conforming to the world. They teach that each member is to abstain from the lust of the world and seek purity in their living. The emphasis of the membership is to show a distinction to those who are worldly that they are different. Any one who saw these church members on a daily basis knew that by their dress, speech, and actions that they were different. This church also emphasizes loving one another and doing everything in their ability to do good to all. This church makes sure that all that were a part of it would have their basic needs met and that everyone works together for the good of all. The preaching and teaching leads each person to think of others before they think of themselves.

In church number 2, we find another group of people who preach and teach the importance of following all the teachings of the Scriptures. They preach that even ignoring the least of what the Scriptures teach leads to a path away from where they should be in their walk. The preaching and teaching emphasizes that there must be a clear separation from worldly thinking and living. Being around evil on a daily basis will corrupt the heart and mind of the member and will lead them away from the church. The idea of associating with worldly people is a compromise that leads to destruction. The life that is to be lived by the members of this church is to lead others to come to where they were and turn from their worldly lifestyle. This church expresses great interest in not coming close to worldly thinking. In some cases, this church advises people to take a standard that is far above what is needed so as to not come close to looking or acting like the world. This church preaches without compromise that the Lord God is over all and in control of all and we cannot ever get away from God’s power over all.

In church number 3, we find preaching that stands firm on the Word of God only. There is no compromise in oral traditions or philosophies that are not clearly written in the Book. The preaching emphasizes the study and learning of the absolute truths found in the Scriptures. The teaching of this church leads the people to not emphasize on ideas and thinking that are just in the imagination of man’s mind. The people are taught not to dwell on the what if’s of life or those things that do not appear in Scriptures as knowable facts. They acknowledge that there may be things that we do not know that are beyond us, but they should not dwell on those things. This group teaches that knowing God through His Word is the utmost important thing in life. This church does not have time to fellowship with other churches that spend their time in the pursuit of emotionalisms of life. They teach that the flesh needs to be denied and changed without compromise based upon the teaching of God’s Word.

In church number 4, we find a group that realizes that reaching the community with the Truth requires them to be out in the community and functioning within the law of the land. The preaching in this church reminds their members that we are still in the world even though we are not of the world. The emphasis is to not attack the government of the area but to live under its rules to the best of their ability without compromising who they are as a people. The church finds ways to reach out and be a help to the government system around them, to have opportunity to continue serving God as they know they need to. The church teaches that living for God does not require them to rebel against the laws they are subject to.

In church number 5, we find a group of people who simply want to understand life here on earth and live it the best way they know how. This church is not interested in attacking other churches who do not believe as they do but simply want their members to live life to the fullest and learn all that they can about how great life can be. This church does not worry about what others think of them or if they do not meet the same standard of living as the others do. This church just wants to do what they can while serving here in this community.

These churches are on every corner here in the “Bible Belt.” Why would we want to start another one?

The churches mentioned above were groups present at the time of Christ here on earth.  His ministry focus was on winning the lost to Himself.  His preaching lead Him to reveal the heart of the matter of these groups.  Below are the groups that would have met the description of the churches above.
Church 1: Stoics
Church 2: Pharisees
Church 3: Sadducees
Church 4: Herodians
Church 5: Epicureans
Christ came on the scene and preached against each of these because in the midst of their religious walk they did not even recognize who He was, God Himself, the One they all said they were worshiping.

Why start another church? Because just maybe we need a church that will center on Him so that people will recognize Him. Just maybe then we can truly affect our world, and turn the world upside down.

Another church is present today as it was in Christ’s day. This group was those who were truly looking for the coming of the Messiah. These people are those who were seeking the truth about life and death and eternity. These were the people, when Jesus reached out to them, left all and followed Him. These people Jesus sent out into the highways and hedges, to the maimed, halt, and blind, and compelled them to come into the fold. This church saw the need of the multitudes and went to Jesus for the answers to meet the multitudes’ hunger. This is the church. Because they knew Him, they preached the truth of God’s Word uncompromisingly and lived the life that may have looked something like the other churches, but with a great difference. This church was different from the others because they turned the world upside down for Christ.

Act 17:2-6 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

We want a church to turn the world.  Is there a church in your Bible Belt that is turning the community you live in upside down?  If so, get in it, get with it, and don’t ever stop.  If not, then get with it, get it going, and never stop until it is all upside down.

Day 125

Day 125
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
Some times the world will gather together to fight against God’s people.  We need to be aware of the battle that comes straight at us from the world.  The world thinks it can defeat God.

Joshua 9:1-2 And it came to pass, when all the kings which were on this side Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea over against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard thereof;
That they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.

Other times the world will gather to disguise themselves to infiltrate God’s people.  The world thinks it can trick God.

Joshua 9:3-10 And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho and to Ai,                                                              They did work wilily, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles, old, and rent, and bound up;
And old shoes and clouted upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and mouldy.
And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We be come from a far country: now therefore make ye a league with us.
And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you?
And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye?
And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth.

Prepare for the fight against the attacks of the world, but most of all be aware of the world in your wall.

We need to watch out for the world attacking the truth.  However, we are becoming ineffective in attacking the world because we were not looking out for the false teachers inside our own walls.  We let ones in under false pretenses.  The church needs to get a hold of the Lord in dealing with those we bring in.

2Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

Day 124

Day 124
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
When we come to worship God at the altar, we need to always remember the truth of His Word.  Worship is based upon the absolute truth of God’s Word.

Joshua 8:30-35 Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,
As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.
And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.

This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.

We are to remember the landmarks, We are to remember what we learned from them.  We are to remember whom we learned them from.  The landmarks are not just for the landmarks sake but for knowing what we believe, why we believe it and how to put it to practical use.
2Timothy 3:14-17 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Day 123

Day 123
Biblical Principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
Truth 1: God will not go with you into the battles of the Christian walk if we take from the provisions of the world to meet our needs.
Truth 2: After great victories from God, do not approach the next battle that you can fight this one without every part of our being.  All battles are the Lord’s, big insurmountable ones and ones that appear small and simple.   (Thought: If they took everyone with them into this new battle perhaps, they would have found out Achan.  He might have hesitated to go because he may have been thinking he may die and would not enjoy the riches he just took.)  Don’t get ahead of God in the battles.

Joshua 7:1-13 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel.
And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
And Joshua said, Alas, O LORD God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!
O LORD, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.
Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

This section is for you to find a way to apply the truth in your life. I will try to give only one as example; there may be other practical ways. This is what makes the Christian walk so important and makes it important to have a deliberate purpose in everything we do.

What are you relying on for victory: things you have or who God is. What is keeping you from going to battle without all your armor on?

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
