Why I Believe What I Believe
Day 131
Biblical principle - Absolute truth from God’s Word:
It only takes one generation to turn away from God. The
children of those who served God mightily in one generation turned to serve
Baalim (many images of gods). God even warned them this would take place. The
question to ask is why did the next generation not know the LORD. There were
altars and monuments all over the land to remind them of God and all that He
had done but to no affect. The answer is simple. Knowing the Lord does not come
from your relationship with your parents but with your relationship with the
Lord. Every generation needs to make it personal.
Judges 2:1-11, And
an angel of the Lord came up from
Gilgal to Bochim, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought
you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break
my covenant with you. 2And ye shall make no league with the
inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but ye have not
obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? 3Wherefore I also said, I
will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your
sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. 4And it came to
pass, when the angel of the Lord
spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. 5And
they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto the Lord. 6And when Joshua had
let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance
to possess the land. 7And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the
days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of
the Lord, that he did for Israel. 8And
Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord,
died, being an hundred and ten years old. 9And they buried him in
the border of his inheritance in Timnathheres, in the mount of Ephraim, on the
north side of the hill Gaash. 10And also all that generation were
gathered unto their fathers: and there
arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. 11And
the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim:
Practical - Works that apply Biblical principle:
Many
claim the Lord but do not follow the Lord and are blinded to the fact that they
do not know the Lord. Their true father the devil has deceived them with a lie.
There can be entire generations grow up in church believing a lie and thinking
they are ok. Only the true Word of God can show the light that reveals the
darkness in which they are living. Unfortunately, when shown the darkness,
these men turned on Jesus to stone Him.
John 8:39-47, They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.
Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of
Abraham. 40But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the
truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. 41Ye do the
deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we
have one Father, even God. 42Jesus said unto them, If God were your
Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came
I of myself, but he sent me. 43Why do ye not understand my speech?
even because ye cannot hear my word. 44Ye are of your father the
devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When
he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of
it. 45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46Which
of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47He
that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are
not of God.
