Sodomy, the Bible term, or homosexuality, the world’s term,
is a big topic in the news these days… again. Though much has been said and is
said about the subject from many different perspectives and approaches, my
words would just add to the clutter. I just want to take the time to present
what the Scriptures say. The Bible addresses sexual sins which many people try
to interpret differently in order to excuse their behavior. The Bible addresses
evil thoughts which people dismiss as natural thinking that no one can avoid or
prevent. Arguments ensue when two people with differing opinions on this
subject try to have a discussion. When we try to stand strong on the truth of
God’s Word we get bogged down in the “symptom” arguments. Just like any
physical illness, a doctor has choices to make. Does the doctor attack the
symptoms in hopes that he defeats the cause; or, does the doctor find the cause
and give a cure? You may win the argument by attacking the attitudes, thoughts
and actions of someone you disagree with in hopes they see it your way; or, we
can go straight to the cause and give the cure.
What
is the cause of all these arguments about whether or not homosexuality is a sin
and whether or not it is okay for a man to marry a man or woman to marry a woman?
The cause of all of this is whether or not one understands God-given authority. Is God’s authority an
absolute? The Bible teaches God’s ultimate absolute authority in creation. Since
this is a fact of absolute, we see that God created mankind in His image, male
and female created He them. God set up the family. Some are sidetracked when the
definition of a family is argued. So, for the moment, let’s see what the Bible
says about the definition and structure of a family.
Ephesians 5:23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head
of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
The reason for this verse is to show that God gave the
authority of the home to the husband. The family is a God-given entity that has
definite authority in it. There is not equal authority in the home. Some argue
this and use terms such as unfairness. Many children think it is unfair that
parents have all the authority. Some liberal thinkers buy into this and give children
equal access. What a mistake! This is the same with any authority structure
breakdown. The Bible establishes God’s authority with all of creation.
Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that
are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers: all things were created by him, and for him: God established
the authority of husband with the creation of the family.
1Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority
over the man, but
to be in silence.
1Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
1Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being
deceived was in the transgression.
Adam was given authority from God and because of his sin he
will be held responsible.
God established the authority of government.
1Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
1Timothy 2:2 For kings, and for
all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all
godliness and honesty.
1Timothy 2:3 For this is
good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
God also established the authority of the church.
Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit
yourselves: for
they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that
they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Like it or not, the husband is the head of the home,
government leaders are the authority of your rule of law and the man of God is
the authority in the church. The Bible is the ultimate authority both in the
written Word of God and the person of God referred to as the Word made flesh.
Therefore, God established the home His way. God established
the intimate physical actions of a married couple as honorable.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled:
but
whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Any acts of intimate physical nature done outside the
marriage of one man and one woman are never right. There is no possible way a
man and a man, or a woman and a woman be married as there can be only one
authority in the home. With two men, that becomes a problem. With two women,
that becomes a problem as neither are a man. Some may say, what about single
women parent homes?
Psalm 68:5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
When the father is not present, God is the father
(authority).
Marriage can only be between a man and a woman. Any intimate
physical relationship outside a marriage is a sin.
With all that being said, what is the political issue of the
day? The world has rejected God’s authority. They are working on convincing
everyone else that it does not matter. They will use God when He fits their
agenda such as, “God made them that way.” Not true, as this would contradict
God’s authority in His creation. They will attack your and my judgments on
right and wrong by telling us we have no business telling anyone what is right
or wrong.
The present White House administration started this by
making it known that they would not uphold the law of the land which is the Protection
of Marriage Act. They have demonstrated their distaste for law and order and
authority. This administration then did away with the “don’t ask or tell” in
the military; again, an attack on the rule of law and authority. Per Military
Code of Justice: no intimate physical relationships are allowed outside of a
married couple. Again, no matter what you think of the law, it is the law and
they are disregarding it. In order for homosexuals to not violate this command,
they will need to be recognized as a married couple. The administration knows
that States can make their own laws to ban gay marriage and the Federal
Government can do nothing about it, so says the Supreme Court. However, the
whole agenda here is not
State recognition of gay
marriage, but federal recognition in the federally controlled military. Our
national security is at risk here as the defense of our nation is taking a back
seat to the defense of their agenda.
So do not let them win the argument. Make all those in the
discussion deal with whether or not to the accept the authority of God and His
Word.
